Ginger Geezer

I originally created the website Ginger Geezer around 1998 or so, a few years after Vivian left this earthly plane, when the public internet was still young. I spent a lot of time digging through the family archives to create an educational and artistic tribute to a unique artist, who just happened to be my step-father. Over the years my mother, Ki Longfellow, Vivian's American wife and mother of Silky Longfellow-Stanshall, maintained the site as a labor of love much like the Winchester Mystery House in California. After her husband's death Mrs. Winchester never stopped adding strange corridors leading to dead ends or hidden rooms. In the same way Ki was adding to this site for decades, happily taking you down rabbit holes of artistic, weird, and sometimes entirely irrelevant information.

After she died in 2022 the site was temporarily removed from the internet, but I have restored it, removing all the dead links and even adding some fresh ones. I have, however, chosen not to redesign or upgrade it in any way. The technology still works, and the site design is a reflection of both Vivian's artistic oeuvre and also Ki's love and artistic sensibility.

This site is now hosted by Ki's daughters, in loving memory of Vivian Stanshall and Ki Longfellow.

Vivian's "Great Life" with Neil Innes and Ki (produced by the very wonderful Toby Field) was broadcast on Radio 4 on Tuesday 22 December 2009 at 16:30 GMT and then again on Christmas Day. It is now accessible from anywhere in the world via Vivian's Great Life .

My pink half of the drainpipe... separates me from the incredibly fascinating story of your life and every day to day event in each and every tedious attempt into detail: was it a Thursday or a Wednesday or — what the hell does it matter?  Because you're normal and if you're normal I intend to be a freak for the rest of my life and I shall baffle you with cabbages and rhinos in the kitchen and incessant quotations from Now We Are Six through the mouthpiece of Lord Snooty's giant poisoned electric head.

The phrase "eccentric" is wildly overused, but for the late Vivian Stanshall nothing else can suffice.

A musician, writer, artist, raconteur and all-round one-off - the UK just doesn't seem to produce his sort any more!

This site, with a mass of Viv-related material, is run by his family. It's touched with a sense of surreal fun which Vivian would have loved.
