Hirut, originally from Ethiopia and raised in Germany, played a shameless elver (young eel). She managed to bring a fresh slinkiness to the role, even battling her unfortunate headdress. She had a delicious German accent to her English and her singing was a bit like Marilyn Monroe; sort of breathy and off key. This was perhaps her first and only performance in the theatre, but her dedication to the Old Profanity showboat and total enthusiasm and hardwork won her the part and the hearts of the audience.
